  • ICCA CEC Summer Meeting debuts in Moscow

On August 18-20, 2016 Moscow came into the spotlight of the European meetings industry as it welcomed the annual ICCA CEC Summer Meeting for the first time. The annual Summer Meetings of the ICCA Central European Chapter, the largest division of the ICCA family both in terms of size and geographical diversity, acts as a crucial communication platform between meetings industry professionals across Europe.

The Russian capital’s bid to host the acclaimed event was backed by the key players of the Moscow meetings market: the Moscow Convention and Exhibition Bureau, Restec Events, the World Trade Center Moscow, Intourist, the International Agency of Congress Management (MAKO) and the VDNH, Moscow’s oldest and most traditional convention complex.

The challenges and opportunities tackled by the delegates ranged from smart event technologies to applied sociology and futurology to creating a welcoming city culture and developing business communications with Russian companies. New solutions to these relevant industry issues were proposed by foreign and home experts as well as European businessmen with a solid backlog of experience on the Russian market.

Tatiana Anisimova, CEO, Moscow Convention and Exhibition Bureau, welcoming the guests on behalf of the City Government, highlighted that congresses, conferences, festivals and sports events play a crucial role in shaping the face and image of Moscow. “This is why the ICCA Central European Chapter Summer Meeting is an important event for the Moscow business community and for the city as a whole. I have no doubt that the best practice our foreign guests and Russian colleagues are about to share today will soon be implemented in the best convention centres of Russian megapolises and European capitals”, – asserted Tatiana Anisimova.

For Daria Ostrovskaya, Managing Director of RESTEC MEDIA, being chosen to host the ICCA CEC event means an opportunity to introduce the international meetings industry community to Moscow, its venues, its spectacular sights and its hospitable people: “To me, the enthusiastic feedback from the delegates and the many thanks from the ICCA CEC management are a sign that our Organizing committee has done a really good job of familiarizing our guests with Moscow.”

Anna Gorska, Head of ICCA CEC, voices her appreciation of the Russian capital: “I see Moscow as a promising congress destination, holding lots of new opportunities for foreigners. Everything here changes rapidly and for the best.”

The next ICCA CEC Summer Meeting is scheduled to take place in Lviv, Ukraine in August 2017.
